Door replacement is not complete when the slab swings. The casing, jamb reveal, stops, nail holes, caulk lines, and paint-ready details determine whether the finished opening looks professional.
Casing should sit with a consistent reveal around the jamb. When the reveal wanders, the eye sees the opening as crooked even if the door operates correctly. Small adjustments during casing install make a major visual difference.
Mitered corners need clean contact. If the wall is uneven, trim may need slight adjustment rather than forcing the joint and hoping caulk hides it. Better joinery reduces cracking and keeps paint lines sharp.
Nail holes should be filled without leaving raised spots, and caulk should be tight enough to finish the paint line without becoming the main feature.
A finished door opening should look quiet: straight lines, clean corners, smooth operation, and no obvious repair marks.
